BayWa R.e. Commissions Six Solar Parks In The UK

News

BayWa r.e. has successfully brought six UK solar parks online. Altogether, the plants have an output of around 130 MWp and are located in various parts of southern England and Wales. They include Vine Farm, the largest single solar project (45 MWp) realised by the company to date.

BayWa r.e. has installed the six plants within the last six months. BayWa r.e. system design meets the most demanding standards in terms of optimised installation, subsequent maintenance effort and consistently high output. The commissioning of the solar parks, which took place on schedule in March, meant that the projects could be accredited to the 1.3 ROC scheme (Renewables Obligation Certificates) in the UK. BayWa r.e. financed the six projects itself and is already in the sales process with institutional investors. BayWa r.e.'s technical and commercial operations management team currently looks after wind and solar parks generating approximately 440 MW in the UK.

Matthias Taft, Board Member of BayWa AG, responsible for the energy business, is clearly pleased and offered an insight into further international developments: "These six newly installed plants have increased the output we have realised in the UK in the areas of wind and solar to a total of 390 MWp. Alongside our business activities in Europe and the USA, we are currently working on plans to implement our first solar projects in Asia."

BayWa r.e. is very active in the British market. Further projects are still at the engineering stage. BayWa r.e. continues to be keen on acquiring projects below five megawatts from local UK developers, with particular interest being focused on Northern Ireland.
