Sundog Energy Assets Sold To Photon Energy

News

Photon Energy, the Reading (Berkshire) based independent designer, supplier and installer of solar PV systems, has confirmed that it is on the acquisition trail, having just acquired the assets of Sundog Energy of Penrith (Cumbria).

Following Sundog Energy's decision to go into voluntary liquidation, a contract was signed on Thursday 10 March, under which Photon Energy acquired the Sundog Energy name and goodwill, assets and operation and maintenance (O&M) services with immediate effect.

Photon Energy will be moving the Sundog business to Lancaster and will be taking on key staff to fill the roles of business development manager and contract installers.

Jonathan Bates, director and general manager of Photon Energy said: "Ever since the government announced a massive cutback in support for solar photovoltaics (PV) last year, the market has been in turmoil, and I see no early end to this.

"We are delighted to have acquired Sundog Energy, one of the first commercial PV companies in the UK.  Sundog has an incredible track record stretching back over 20 years and has installed some very high profile projects in that time, including the iconic PV installation at Kings Cross station.  Although Sundog has continued to trade strongly, given the adverse conditions facing the sector, its directors have taken the decision that it is time to move on.

"Although Photon Energy has been very focused on new build commercial projects, we are steadily growing our retrofit business as well as our O&M offering; the acquisition of Sundog will enhance our capacity in these areas.

"Our turnover reached an all time high in 2014/15 and we are aiming to do even better in the current year, possibly making further acquisitions if the right opportunities are there.  We are confident of continuing growth in our market and are looking for expansion in the north of England and Scotland in particular."

Since 2006 Photon Energy has steadily expanded its operations to be a genuinely national PV business.  With offices in Reading, Dartford, Poole, Huddersfield and now Lancaster its clients can get the best possible service from a national network of engineering and installation staff.
