Solar Roof For Thomas Graham Warehouse
Thomas Graham, a supplier of steel and industrial supplies, has installated a 221kW roof mounted solar PV system on its new steel warehouse on Kingmoor Park, Carlisle. Sundog Energy installed the 884 solar module system in an operation lasting less than 4 weeks. The PV modules convert sunlight into free, green, electricity and the whole system is projected to generate around 173,000 kWh (units) of electricity per year. This will offset the daily running costs of the warehouse and reduce Thomas Graham's COâ‚‚ emissions by as much as 90 tonnes each year.
As well as reducing running costs and helping to protect the climate, Thomas Graham will also benefit from the Government Feed-In Tariff (FIT) scheme. The FIT scheme provides generous guaranteed, index-linked payments for 20 years for all of the electricity the solar PV system generates. This regular income will mean that the system is rapidly paid off and over the longer term ensures a sound financial return on the investment.
Phil Barnes, Operations Director for Thomas Graham's, said "Following the decision that solar PV was the right way forward for Thomas Graham's and that Sundog Energy were the right partner for us, the project moved forward without any problems or delays. All work was completed to specification and within budget, the team involved were a pleasure to work with and for the size of installation there was very little disruption; we are now benefitting from the operational savings and looking forward to the FIT payments.
Martin Cotterell, Founder and Managing Director of Sundog Energy, said, "Solar power is a win-win solution for any business at this time. It means they can capitalise on their unused roof space, save money on energy bills and earn money by generating their own free electricity. With payback on systems like this one expected in little over 7 years, everything generated after that becomes pure profit. It is easy to see why solar power makes perfect business sense."
