Solarcentury Receives 28MWp Farm Go Ahead
Solarcentury has received planning permission for its 28MWp solar farm to be located on land to the south of Walkers Wood, near Ranby, Nottinghamshire.
The development will cover an area of approximately 57.4 hectares and generate renewable energy sufficient for about 7,500 average UK homes.
The scheme received planning permission from Bassetlaw District Council in September 2014. Formal notice of that decision was given to Solarcentury on 18 September 2014.
Tom Illsley, Project Manager for the scheme said, "We are happy with the decision from Bassetlaw District Council and look forward to proceeding with the solar farm. We listened to the concerns of locals during the planning process and have tried to address these with the approved scheme. We now look forward to building a solar farm that will generate enough clean solar electricity to power 7,500 homes."
The solar panels will be laid in rows on an east to west alignment facing south to maximise exposure to daylight. They will be fixed through piles driven into the ground "“ no concrete foundations are used and therefore little excavation is necessary.
The rows will be set back from the security fence to ensure existing trees and hedges that surround the site will not be harmed by the development and that is it fully screened from the neighbouring fields.
The site was originally identified by Savills, who provides site searching, landowner negotiations and planning services to Solarcentury. The Walkers Wood Solar Farm represents the largest scheme to date that Savills and Solarcentury have successfully delivered.
Gregory Dix, Savills Project Manager commented, "The combination of Solarcentury one of the UK's oldest solar companies and Savills the UK's largest land and property consultancy company demonstrates that experience counts; we are very proud to have now helped Solarcentury achieve 11 consented solar farm developments in the UK."
