UK Solar Companies Challenge ROC Decision
The UK solar industry is once again at odds with the government's decision to change a subsidy mechanism before it is due to finish. Four of the largest installer companies are seeking a judicial review on the UK Government's decision to end Renewable Obligation Certificate (ROC) scheme two years earlier than planned.
Solarcentury, Lark Energy, TGC Renewables and Orta Solar Farms have joined forces to challenge the recent decision to end ROC support in 2015 for farms with a capacity greater than 5MW.
The companies claim the decision was unlawful and could result in a large number of job losses and created investor uncertainty in the market.
Many in the industry feel solar is close to self sufficiency and worry that the government is seeking money to pay for other renewable options at the expense of the solar industry's exceptional growth. The concern is that companies will rush to finish orders already made and with investor uncertainty there could be a huge disruption to the industry growth.
