Domain For .solar Now Available To Buy
A new generic Top-Level Domain (gTLD) has launched to help installers, distributors and manufacturers of solar photovoltaic (PV) solutions to clearly stand out on the Web. According to 123-reg, the UK's largest domain registrar, the domain, .SOLAR, offers solar-focused businesses the chance to advertise their green credentials and expertise to potential customers before they have even visited their websites.
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the global body that governs the internet, is currently overseeing the largest shake-up of the domain system since the internet took off. Whereas website owners were once restricted to around 25 gTLDs, such as .com and .biz, they will soon have the opportunity to choose from over 1,400.
Many of these new domains will not be available until 2015, but a number have already been launched, including .SOLAR, which is now available to buy.
Richard Winslow, Brand Manager for 123-reg, said: "End-user demand for solar energy is growing rapidly, but so too is the number of solar PV manufacturers, installers and distributors, making it increasingly difficult to stand out online. Having a specialised domain, like .SOLAR, means you can let potential customers and clients know immediately what you do and who you are, before they have even clicked on your website. Moreover, it sends the message that you are professional, and serious about the industry you're in. Doing business with someone online requires trust, so anything that can increase confidence in your business is incredibly valuable.
"The important thing here is to get in early. The shake up of the gTLD system has opened up countless opportunities to get the domain you've always wanted, but they won't be sitting on the lot for long. Using a .SOLAR domain instantly makes your web address more unique and more memorable "“ helping your customers find you when they need your services," he concluded.
