Belectric Have Been Busy Bees With Their Solar Farms
On the 4th July 2014, the Solar Trade Association (STA) held "˜Solar Independence Day' across numerous solar farms around Britain. Solar Independence Day forms part of an educational push by the STA to help communicate the many benefits of solar farms to local communities.
Belectric UK opened up their Willersey, Cantelupe and Wadebridge solar farms across Britain, and gave tours around each solar farm to the local communities and schools. The tours were held to educate visitors about solar farms, solar energy and how home-grown solar energy can benefit local communities.
Previously in the week Belectric UK launched "˜Big60Million', a new initiative designed to deliver a range of financial, environmental, and social benefits from local solar farms to the 60 Million residents of the UK. Willersey Solar Farm is the first "˜Big60Million' project and a bond is being issued which will provide a fixed 7% interest rate (gross) for 5-years, with the option to reinvest after 5-years.
Habitat management programmes have been implemented across Belectric UK's solar farms to show how solar and nature can work in harmony to benefit the environment and produce green energy. With the rapid decline of bees across Britain, Belectric UK can proudly announce that they house close to 1 Million bees in hives across their solar farms.
Belectric UK have also worked with local schools to paint and install homes for British wildlife including birds, bats and hedgehogs on many of their solar farms. Willersey Solar Farm is constructed on low grade agricultural land and has now been turned into a flourishing nature sanctuary - a safe home for many birds, insects, bees, butterflies and wildflowers. Toddington Harper CEO commented "Willersey Solar Farm is an exceptional project, and in our view, sets a new bar for how we feel solar farms should be developed and implemented. It is our first Big60Million community project, and we are looking forward to the opportunity of developing additional Big60Million projects to benefit more communities".
