Power Electronics Beats The ROC Clock
Inverter manufacturer Power Electronics (PE) successfully commissioned over 30 parks all over the UK, totalling more than 350MW in a 2 week period, half of them (175MW) in only 48 hours, with more than 600 MW installed in UK to date.
The solar sector in the UK, thanks to the ROCs scheme established by the Government, has driven two years of successful growth of the renewable energy sector. On the 31st of March the ROCs scheme were to be brought down from 1.6 to 1.4 which created a rush for all companies with solar projects in the UK to connect their parks before this deadline.
Power Electronics realized that successfully commissioning more than 350MW in two weeks, in more than 30 different locations was going to be one of the company's greatest challenges to date. The company needed over 60 engineers from all over the globe to go to the UK during the month of March.
PE leveraged its experience as an industrial corporation, coming from the Drives and Soft starters business. With experience in industries such as:mining, water, oil and gas, the company organized a team of 60 PE engineers, including 15 permanently based in U.K, to make sure that each plant would have the necessary manpower to connect at any time, no matter the cost. PE says they did not pass on this extra cost and see it as the cost of doing business.
On a more global scale, while other solar inverter manufacturers are having a tough time trying to rescale their business, PE has experienced a steady yearly growth of over 40%.
