Launch Of Lightsource Commercial Rooftops
Lightsource acquired assets from Renewable Resources UK earlier this year and is now placed to design and install rooftop photovoltaic systems for commercial customers. The two companies have a strong track record of delivering solar technology and Lightsource Commercial Rooftops will now be able to provide rooftop photovoltaic systems to businesses across the UK.
Lightsource completed 227 Megawatts of solar projects in March alone, which will generate enough green electricity to power 70,000 UK households. Renewable Resources has previously installed over 700 solar rooftops, on buildings including supermarkets, hospitals and schools. The new Lightsource Commercial Rooftops division will be uniquely placed to support the Government to deliver its upcoming Solar Strategy and meet its renewable energy targets.
Businesses will even be able to opt for a rooftop installation fully funded by Lightsource, at no cost to them, and still make a saving of up to 20 per cent on their energy bills. Figures from the ONS show that energy and water bills cost businesses over £60 billion a year. By opting for a Lightsource Commercial Rooftop installation, businesses will save money as well as helping to provide greener energy.
Nick Boyle, CEO for Lightsource Renewable Energy commented:
"Today's launch of Lightsource's new rooftop division fits perfectly alongside the vision set out by the Government in its new Solar Strategy. Through our new division, we will truly be able to turn rooftops into power stations in line with the Government's ambitions.
Lightsource is delighted that the Government has signalled its commitment to the solar industry through the publication of a Solar Strategy and has publicised its intention to open up the solar market on commercial rooftops. Lightsource is at the forefront of developing solar technology, and our recent acquisition makes us uniquely able to both design and install fully funded commercial rooftop photovoltaic systems. This means that small businesses won't have to pay for the installation of the technology, and with their new rooftops could save up to 20 per cent on their energy bills.
"Not only is it environmentally sound for businesses to have PV systems installed on the rooftops, it also makes good business sense as they'll significantly reduce their overall expenditure on energy."
The announcement has been backed by Energy and Climate Change Minister Greg Barker, who said:
"I want to see energy customers producing their own electricity as well as just consuming it, becoming "˜pro-sumers' not just consumers.
"Investment in the UK renewable energy sector is an important part of the UK's long-term economic plan as well as helping to drive affordable bills and cleaner energy for consumers."
