Juwi Gets Planning Permission For 3.5 MW Project
juwi Renewable Energies, based in Solihull, West Midlands, has recently received planning permission to build a 3.5 MW Solar plant in Tolland, Somerset.
The project based on Grove Farm, Tolland, was recently approved by a planning committee from Taunton Deane Borough Council.
The site was chosen because it avoids designated landscapes and does not give rise to any ecological or heritage impacts. Consideration was given during the planning application on two keys issues, visual impact and flood risk.
In respect of visual impact a substantial landscaping scheme was developed which includes planting approximately 30 semi-mature native trees in order to ensure that the key views of the site are screened as part of the construction process.
Detailed assessments were also undertaken in order to satisfy the Environment Agency, Taunton Drainage Engineers and Somerset Drainage Engineers that the development would not increase the risk of flooding.
The project once operational will generate over 3,600,000 KWh of renewable electricity per year, saving over 1,500 tonnes of CO2 per annum. It is anticipated the project will begin construction in September 2014 and be completed by December 2014.
The company has also offered a generous community benefit package which will benefit the local community for future years.
