British Gas Signs Solar Deal With Bluefield

News
Industrial size projects are the goal for new venture

Bluefield Partners has announced the signing of a cooperation agreement for Industrial and Commercial solar installations with British Gas. Following their track record of working together on the funding and installation of a series of landmark industrially located solar plants for Thames Water and Toyota among others , British Gas and Bluefield have agreed a comprehensive funded offering to provide attractive fixed price solar power to industrial and commercial offtakers.

Under the cooperation agreement British Gas has agreed to grant exclusivity to Bluefield for the funding of all commercial and industrial solar PV installed by British Gas, and Bluefield has agreed to devote significant funding to the installation of industrially connected solar plants.  British Gas Solar will be the exclusive provider of ongoing Operation and Maintenance services on all solar PV installations installed under the partnership.

The cooperation agreement offers a unique opportunity for industrial and commercial high energy users to benefit from attractive long term fixed power prices through on site installation of solar power.  This would be fully funded by Bluefield. Industrial customers able to offer a long term lease on available ground or rooftop space will have a solar plant designed and installed by British Gas providing power for direct use on site. Such directly connected solar offers both financial and environmental benefits to its users.

Colin MacDonald, British Gas said, "Rising energy costs from traditional fuel sources continue to drive demand from UK industries for renewable energy solutions with lower and less volatile costs. Furthermore, recent announcements from the Department of Energy and Climate Change signalling ongoing support for solar energy through feed-in tariffs make solar energy an ever more attractive option for UK businesses.

Mike Rand, Partner, Bluefield stated, "Bluefield anticipates committing significant funds to enable largescale installation of industrial solar plants on ground and rooftops across the UK. The proven track record of Bluefield and British Gas in installing and funding industrial solar plants provides a unique proven offering for industrial customers looking to reduce their energy bills whilst enhancing their energy efficiency ratings."
