Two New PV Plants For Cornwall
Experienced European solar EPC and project developers, WIRSOL has installed more than 440 MW worldwide. Now it has entered into an agreement with Lightsource Renewable Energy, who has purchased and will be delivered with both projects once they have been constructed and commissioned.
The installed capacity totalling 9.6 MW will be added to the Lightsource asset management portfolio in the UK whilst WIRSOL will be retained under an operations and maintenance contract to ensure both plants perform at optimal generation levels.
"Lightsource Renewable Energy is the major player in funding UK solar projects right now. WIRSOL is very excited about this new opportunity. We see this as both strategic and practical in terms of the needs of both companies. There are many different synergies at work "“ WIRSOL's experience and expertise in constructing solar parks and Lightsource's UK coverage and ability to secure long-term finance," says Mark Hogan, WIRSOL's President for International Business Development.
"It has been made very clear in recent times that solar is a key component in the UK's drive towards its renewable energy targets. We hope solar subsidies will continue at sensible levels to assist in making solar competitive with other energy sources and our goal of reaching grid parity within a predicted six years", says Nick Boyle, CEO of Lightsource Renewable Energy. "Renewable energy sources and schemes, such as these, need to become an integral part of the domestic power output if we are to achieve the Government's target of 15% of the UK's electricity being generated from renewable sources by 2020", Boyle continues.
