UK's First Solar Carport For Electric Vehicles

News

Cheshire based renewable energy specialist, the Green Electrician Group, is the first company in the UK to build a solar car port for electric vehicles. The solar car port, located at the Green Electrician Group's head office in Nantwich, has two charge points for electric vehicles powered by solar PV panels, offering the UK's first totally carbon neutral way to charge a car.

The solar car port is designed for use at home or in a commercial environment, such as retail or office car parks, providing shelter for vehicles and drivers whilst generating electricity through the solar panels for use in electric charge points or for nearby buildings such as homes or offices.

Stephen Davies, Sales Director at the Green Electrician Group, comments: "As the cost of energy and fuel continues to rise, consumers and businesses are increasingly turning to renewable sources to save money and improve efficiencies. These solar car ports are already being used extensively in Europe and, when equipped with charge points, demonstrate how renewable energy can offset the costs of day to day living."

The Green Electrician has had its first public visitor to the solar car port. Electric vehicle owner, Ian Cook, visited the Green Electrician Group's head office to recharge his car on his way South to Silverstone to attend a Nissan LEAF VIP event.

"We were thrilled to be able to help Ian as there are extremely limited electric vehicle car charging points in the area," continues Stephen. "We expect to see more and more electric cars in the area as new ranges come out that make costly trips to garage forecourts a thing of the past, plus businesses can benefit from 100% tax breaks from purchasing electric vehicles."
