Solarsense Go Back To Ethiopia
Charity work is an important part of the ethos of Bristol based solar installer Solarsense UK Ltd. Last February, two employees from Solarsense travelled to Ethiopia where they installed a solar powered refrigerator at a remote medical centre. They installed a 430Wp solar photovoltaic array set up to power the medical fridge-freezer unit, used for desperately needed vaccinations.
After completing the installation they also spent time training key local people in the maintenance and operation of the fridge, including the local electrician and the health support workers who staff the clinic. The fridge was installed at the Beso rural medical clinic in a remote village about an hours' drive north of Addis Alem, which serves as the sole medical resource for a population of over 3,000 people.
The trip was organised in partnership with Bristol based For-Ethiopia, which works in the Ejere area of the country to reduce poverty and increase well being. Following the success of the fridge unit at the Beso clinic, a team from Solarsense are going out again in 2012 in conjunction with For-Ethiopia to install three more of these units in three further sites.
