Solar Farm Denied To Save Insects
A local council has declined a 27 000 panel farm due to wildlife impact
It has been reported that West Oxfordshire District Council has refused to allow a 27,000 panel solar farm at Cornbury Park due to fears that the insects around would suffer unduly. The decision was made after consultation with Natural England and the Cotswolds Conservation Board.
The concerns were that said some types of wildlife, including beetles and stoneflies, could mistake the solar panels for water and lay eggs on them, thereby damaging the population. The conservation board was worried the visual impact the plan would have had on the area known for its tourist attracting beauty.
The five megawatt solar farm was commissioned by the owners, Lord and Lady Rotherwick, who are known for looking at imaginative ways to maintain and keep the family property. The decision was not unanimous and some councillors suggested the complaints had being minimal.
