Over 3.5 Million Jobs By 2015
The Indian semiconductor industry expects more than 3.5 million jobs to be generated within the next seven years.
The Indian semiconductor industry is thriving and expects to loose its reputation as an outsourced hub while aiming to become a major export hub for this industry sector. This is initiated by a growing talent pool and also by the government's policies.
By 2010 it is expected that the industry will have generated nearly 1.85 million jobs and by 2015 approximately 3.6 million jobs. The average space per employee in a manufacturing facility will range approximately around 165 square feet which would increase a high demand for real estate. As reported in the media, this would equate to more than 600 million square feet by 2015.
During the next decade, financial incentives are planned to be provided for SEZ areas which could reach 20 % on capex. For non SEZ areas it could reach up to 25%.
Since the government's proposal the investments already reached Rs. 65,000 crores. Reliance Industries proposed an investment of Rs. 42,000 crores. Videocon, Moser Baer and Signet Solar also proposed.
Furthermore, a huge semiconductor city is being developed at Ranga Reddy district in Andhra Pradesh with participation from private companies such as AMD, SemIndia, Base Oxygen Corporation, Flextronics and HSMC.
