World's Thinnest Oscillator Introduced

News
SiTime introduces the world's thinnest clock oscillator with height of 0.25mm. The high performance, programmable clock oscillator is ideal for high volume portable electronics.
The provider of MEMS based silicon timing solutions, SiTime Corporation, announced the availability of the world's thinnest clock oscillator, which is one third the height of quartz based oscillators. The SiT8002XT offers programmability, robustness and reliability and short lead times, making it the ideal clock source for high volume portable electronics, such as high capacity SIM cards, smart cards, mobile phone system in package (SIP) modules, digital cameras, LCD TVs, media players, gaming solutions, hard disk drives and USB peripherals.

The device's small size also enables it to be embedded inside popular SIP modules for mobile applications, eliminating external clock sources completely and reducing system design complexity. The SiT8002XT is fully factory programmable, allowing samples to be delivered in 24 to 48 hours, which is significantly faster than the 8 to16 week lead times for quartz oscillators. Factory programmable features include a highly accurate output clock frequency (1-125 MHz), operating voltage (1.8V, 2.5V, 3.3V), frequency tolerance (±100 PPM and ±500 PPM) and standby or output enable modes. These features ensure that the device can be optimised for the customer's design and can be configured through an easy to use part number calculator.

"Consumer demand for portable electronics is driving the development of smaller and thinner semiconductors," said Piyush Sevalia, vice president of marketing for SiTime. "SiTime's industry leading MEMS and programmable analogue technology has enabled us to offer the thinnest, most robust and reliable clock oscillator in the market, with the shortest lead times in the industry."
