Indian Fab Policy Receives Huge Response
According to reports in Indian media the recently announced semiconductor policy received an enormous response.
This immense response has come from 12 potent players and include companies like Reliance Industries and Signet Solar. The total line up sums up to Rs 93,000 crore.
Reliance approached with a Rs 18,500 crore plan to set up a semiconductor wafer fab in India as well as a further Rs 11,631 crore proposal to build a photovoltaic (PV) plant in India.
IT Minister A. Raja mentioned that these proposals came as a consequence of the semiconductor policy. Further plans came from Videocon Industries to make TFT LCD flat panels as well as for PV; Titan Energy Systems has plans for polysilicon PV projects and so does KSK Surya.
Signet Solar plans to build a solar PV plant and other proposals came from Phoenix Solar, Tata BP Solar, TF Solar and Lanco Solar.
To evaluate the plans, the Department of Information Technology has set up a group of experts and it has been mentioned that the promoters will be coming up to an appraisal committee to sanction subsidies under the scheme once they have reached the threshold limit of investment as guide lined in the Special Incentive Package Scheme.
