Italian company Elsag has ordered custom designed, infrared light-emitting diode (LED) illuminators from US company StockerYale.
Italian company Elsag has ordered custom designed, infrared light-emitting diode (LED) illuminators from US company StockerYale.


The illuminators will be used in the Elsag's O2CR mobile automobile license plate scanner. The system can read either stationary or moving vehicles using optical character recognition (OCR) technology. The data is then transmitted to an on-board computer where it can be immediately compared to an up-to-date hit-list.

Shipments of StockerYale's LED illuminators have already begun. The company anticipates further orders from Elsag in H1 2003.
