ST Makes Mask Agreement
Dai Nippon Printing and STMicroelectronics have formed an alliance for the
development and supply of leading-edge photomasks.
A new company called DNP
Photomask Europe will be created by DNP, with support and equity
shareholding from ST. A photomask production facility will be built next to
ST's site in Agrate, near Milan, Italy.
The new plant is expected to start operations around the middle of 2003,
employing about 100 people. Capital investment is expected to be $150m over
three years. DNP will become ST's primary leading-edge and high-end
photomask supplier. The new plant will be DNP's first photomask production
site outside Japan.
A similar move was made by Infineon Technologies and DuPont Photomasks two
weeks ago (Bulletin 433, May 20, 2002).
