National Semiconductor began construction of its first semiconductor assembly and test facility in China with groundbreaking ceremonies at the Suzhou Industrial Park, 80km from Shanghai. The new plant will include three buildings with 51,800m2 of total floor space. It is expected to begin operations with about 500 employees in 2004.
The facility will include a two-story manufacturing building occupying about 38,600m2, a three-story office and administration building of about 10,200m2, and a utility building of about 3000m2. National Semiconductor has acquired a total land plot of 146,000m2, which is sufficient to provide future growth of four additional similarly sized facilities.
