World Chip Sales In October
The wireless sector is the most healthy with new mobile phone subscribers coming on-line in Asia. The regional break-down was $2.65bn in the Americas, $2.46bn in Europe, $2.85bn in Japan and $4.56bn in Asia Pacific. All regions have improved on last year - 5.2%, 11.7%, 21.4% and 35.1% respectively.
"If there are any doubts remaining about the strength of the global chip industry, a healthy recovery continues as we move into the fourth quarter," comments George Scalise, president of the US Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA). "Having achieved three quarters of continually rising growth, including 5.6% in the first quarter, 5.8% in the second and 8.2% growth in 2002's third quarter, our forecast calls for moderation in the year's final quarter, consistent with normal year-end patterns - steady but sustainable growth across broad product sectors."
