TriQuint Semiconductor completed acquisition of a substantial portion of Agere Systems optoelectronics business for $40mn in cash. The transaction includes the products, technology and some optoelectronics facilities. The operation includes active and passive components, amplifiers, transceivers, transponders and icrosystems (MEMS). The transaction does not include Ageres business providing optoelectronics for cable TV (CATV) systems based in California. Some 340 Agere employees will join TriQuint, including 215 in Pennsylvania and 125 in Matamoros, Mexico. Through a transitional manufacturing agreement, Agere will supply components for TriQuint for a short period. The majority of these components will be manufactured in Ageres einigsville facility in Pennsylvania. TriQuint will acquire this plant following the transition. TriQuint will also lease and operate the back-end assembly and test operations in Mexico.

ChipMOS Technologies - a 70%-owned Taiwan subsidiary of ChipMOS Technologies (Bermuda) - is to acquire a more than 40% direct stake in ThaiLin Semiconductor, a semiconductor memory testing services company. ChipMOS Taiwan will pay TWD668.4mn for the stakes by taking all of a private placement of 83.55mn shares issued by ThaiLin at TWD8.0 per share, representing 41% of the total outstanding shares.
INFICON Holding has acquired New Vision Systems, a supplier of advanced process control (APC) and lithography analysis technology. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
