China. Sawtek, a TriQuint subsidiary, will operate the plant, providing
assembly, test, mark, tape and reel support for cellphone products.
TriQuint began construction on the facility in November 2002.
Agilent Technologies Agilent Ventures (AV) fund has participated in a
Series B Preferred Stock funding round for MEMX, a designer of MEMS-based
solutions for the communications and medical industries. The effort raised
more than $8mn in equity. MEMX was founded in 2000 as a spin-off applying
Sandia National Laboratories SUMMiT V MEMS (micro electro-mechanical
system) technology.
IC Peregrine Semiconductor has raised $7.5mn in the third and final
tranche of a $23mn Series A1 funding.
Peregrine and Oki Electric Industry announced plans in December to jointly
make and sell system-on-chip devices built with Peregrines
ultrathin-silicon CMOS-on-sapphire technology. Oki aims to achieve sales
of $244mn for these products in 2005.
As part of the agreement, Oki will also serve as the foundry and second
source for the jointly developed products. Peregrines first source, a
wafer fabrication facility, is located in Sydney, Australia. Peregrine
Semiconductor develops chips that combine high frequency and low power for
RF applications.
