Renewables Are Soaring In Scotland
Paul Wheelhouse MSP, Scotland's Energy Minister, announced today (Sept 28) that Scotland's renewable energy sector is on course to generate a record amount of electricity this year. Responding, Jenny Hogan, Deputy Chief Executive of Scottish Renewables, said: "The ongoing success of Scotland's renewable energy industry is an achievement of which everyone in Scotland should be proud. "We are harnessing our natural resources - in effect our notoriously bad weather - to produce clean energy which is powering our economy and helping reduce the amount of carbon emitted by our power sector. "Onshore wind, which provides the lion's share of our renewable energy, is now the cheapest form of new-build energy generation. The hydro projects built in the 1940s and 50s continue to provide reliable electricity, and newer technologies like solar, biomass, tidal power and battery storage are all coming on stream. "The future for Scotland's renewable energy industry, with the right support from government, is bright."
