News

Energy costs can be one of the biggest overheads for businesses and with prices rising significantly in the last few years, coming up with solutions to keep costs down has never been more important.

Consumers and businesses alike are now being sold the energy efficiency message on a daily basis, but besides trying to cut down on how much we're using -  and changing to more energy efficient products - what measures can businesses take to significantly reduce costs?

These issues facing the UK will be discussed in a live TV debate from the studios of Studiotalk.tv when Kevin Harris will host a debate on whether solar can reduce the energy bills for UK businesses.

The government has recently announced a huge drive to get businesses to consider using roof space to power their businesses by installing solar power panels; firstly to help Britain meet carbon reduction targets, and at the same time to help businesses significantly reduce their energy costs.

Some of the questions covered will look at how easy is it for businesses to sign up to these schemes and what initial investment outlay do they need. Companies are asking how much money will they save on energy costs and how many years will it take to see significant savings. With changing policies and industry goals there is a level of confusion that such talks can help address.

Businesses can find out what issues can be addressed as two industry participants provide key information for benefitting form the UK's changing solar offerings.
Solar UK readers can, watch the live and interactive Web TV show for information and advice from James Carpenter from Westinghouse Solar, and Simon Leadbetter, founder and publisher of ethical investment website Blue and Green Tomorrow. The talk will be May the 1st at 1.30pm London time and can be viewed here at Solar UK. Interested parties can also ask questions of their own at this web address

The talk coincides with the release of a new study commissioned by Westinghouse Solar which shows that three quarters of businesses don't know how much they pay for electricity, a quarter have never changed suppliers, and almost a third don't even know who their provider is.

Westinghouse Solar currently has 22 solar projects with UK schools - either completed or close to completion, with a further 100 schools to be added within the next six months.

Once all the systems are completed, the portfolio will generate over 3,300,000 kWh of renewable electricity and will prevent the emission of over 34,000 tonnes of CO2 per annum. The savings for the schools will be £156, 000 in the first year alone and over £3m over their lifetime.
