UMC Reports Q2 Net Sales Of TWD18.58bn Resulting In Net Income Of TWD4.45bn.

UMC reports Q2 net sales of TWD18.58bn resulting in net income of TWD4.45bn. These compare with net sales of TWD15.00bn and a net loss of TWD1.85bn in Q2 2001. The capital spending budget is to be cut from $1.6bn to $1.3bn
MEMSCAP reports H1 revenues at EUR2.4mn with net losses at EUR10.0mn. During
the first half of the year, operational expenses rose to EUR9.5mn, of which
EUR5.0mn went to R&D. The company started operations at its MEMS fab in
Bernin, France, a few weeks ago. Last year, H1 sales were EUR6.1mn and net
profits EUR0.4mn. The net loss figure does not include an H1 research tax
credit, estimated at EUR1.7mn to be taken at the end of the year. Business
activity is expected to intensify during the second half, but fab start-up
costs and market conditions will most likely prevent profitability this
year.

Geman company SZ Testsysteme reports Q3 sales (up to June 30) of EUR5.5mn,
compared with EUR14.3mn last year. Net losses were EUR3.3mn, compared with a
net profit of EUR155.1mn in 2001. The company is only expecting a "complete
recovery" in mid-2003.

Tower Semiconductor reports Q2 sales at $11.6mn, compared with $12.5mn.
Losses are at $11.3mn from $9.7mn last year.

Q2 net sales at ASM International were EUR140.9mn, down 8.0% on the same
period last year. Net losses were EUR6.4mn, compared with a net profit of
EUR9.3mn in Q2 2001.

Trikon's Q2 sales were $8.5mn resulting in a net loss of $4.7mn. The
comparable figures for 2001 were revenues of $27.7mn and a net profit of
$3.8mn.
