TMD Switches To "˜green' Solar Energy
TMD Technologies Ltd (TMD), an independent manufacturing company in the microwave and RF field, has completed a major installation of solar panels on the roof of its headquarters building in Hayes, West London.
TMD is a substantial, high-tech company, with some 200 employees and an annual turnover of approximately £30 million. It is estimated that the generation of "˜green' power by this new advanced project will be as much as one third of the total energy needed to carry out its business.
Said TMD's Technical Services Manager, Paul Hymans, who commissioned the solar project: "As one would expect with an undertaking of this size and complexity there was a substantial financial outlay. However, this cost will be paid back over approximately the next seven years. We will be feeding electricity back to the national grid - for which we will be paid over £26,000 per annum in accordance with the relevant government scheme - and in addition be making massive savings on our electricity bills of over £40,000 during a year "¦"¦. cutting costs and helping the environment "“ everyone's a winner!"
Because of various obstacles, including vent pipes, the TMD project was not a straightforward case of simply installing a large bank of solar panels. However, these problems were dealt with ably by the prime contractor Your Power, using panels supplied by Trina Solar and inverters supplied by Schneider, to provide a quality, bespoke and tailored solar power solution adapted to meet TMD's specific needs "“ with an expected 12.4 % return on investment!
